Widespread SiO and CH3OH emission in filamentary infrared dark clouds

چکیده
Infrared dark clouds (IRDCs) are cold, dense regions of high (optical and infrared) extinction, believed to be the birthplace of high-mass stars and stellar clusters. The physical mechanisms leading to the formation of these IRDCs are not completely understood and it is thus important to study their molecular gas kinematics and chemical content to search for any signature of the IRDCs formation process. Using the 30-m-diameter antenna at the Instituto de Radioastronomı́a Milimétrica (IRAM), we have obtained emission maps of dense gas tracers (H13CO+ and HN13C) and typical shock tracers (SiO and CH3OH) towards three IRDCs, G028.37+00.07, G034.43+00.24, and G034.77−00.55 (clouds C, F, and G, respectively). We have studied the molecular gas kinematics in these clouds and, consistent with previous works towards other IRDCs, the clouds show complex gas kinematics with several velocity-coherent substructures separated in velocity space by a few km s−1. Correlated with these complex kinematic structures, widespread (parsec-scale) emission of SiO and CH3OH is present in all the three clouds. For clouds C and F, known to be actively forming stars, widespread SiO and CH3OH is likely associated with on-going star formation activity. However, for cloud G, which lacks either 8 or 24μm sources and 4.5μm H2 shock-excited emission, the detected widespread SiO and CH3OH emission may have originated in a large-scale shock interaction, although a scenario involving a population of low-mass stars driving molecular outflows cannot be fully ruled out.

High-angular resolution observations of methanol in the infrared dark cloud core G11.11-0.12P1 ⋆⋆⋆
Recent studies suggest that infrared dark clouds (IRDCs) have the potential of harboring the earliest stages of massive star formation and indeed evidence for this is found toward distinct regions within them. We present a study with the Plateau de Bure Interferometer of a core in the archetypal filamentary IRDC G11.11-0.12 of a few arcsecond resolution to determine its physical and chemical st...
متن کاملDistinct Chemical Regions in the “prestellar” Infrared Dark Cloud (irdc) G028.23-00.19
We have observed the IRDC G028.23-00.19 at 3.3 mm using CARMA. In its center, the IRDC hosts one of the most massive (∼1520 M ) quiescent, cold (12 K) clumps known (MM1). The low temperature, high NH2D abundance, narrow molecular linewidths, and absence of embedded IR sources (from 3.6 to 70 μm) indicate that the clump is likely prestellar. Strong SiO emission with broad linewidths (6-9 km s−1)...

The bipolar nebula, IRAS 19312+1950, is a unique SiO maser source exhibiting both properties as young and evolved objects. To clarify the nature of this object, we made molecular line observations with the Nobeyama 45-m radio telescope. We detected emission from O-bearing (HCO, SiO, SO, and SO2), Cand N-bearing molecules (CN, CS, HCN, HNC, NH3, N2H , HC3N, H2CS, and CH3OH), and their isotopic s...
متن کاملThe G11.11-0.12 Infrared-Dark Cloud: Anomalous Dust and a Non-Magnetic Isothermal Model
The G11.11-0.12 Infrared-Dark Cloud has a filamentary appearance, both in absorption against the diffuse 8μm Galactic background, and in emission from cold dust at 850μm. Detailed comparison of the dust properties at these two wavelengths reveals that standard models for the diffuse interstellar dust in the Galaxy are not consistent with the observations. The ratio of absorption coefficients wi...

Context. The detection of a narrow SiO line emission toward the young shocks of the L1448-mm outflow has been interpreted as a signature of the magnetic precursor of C-shocks. In contrast with the very low SiO abundances (≤10−12) derived from the ambient gas, the narrow SiO emission in the precursor component at almost ambient velocities reveals enhanced SiO abundances of ∼10−11. This enhanceme...
